CPES holds office hours every weekday! Come on out if you have questions about school or even if you just need a place to hang out or study!

These are some of the upcoming events that CPES is putting on for the 2024-2025 academic year! Please note that all events are subject to change without notice and that we will be updating this every quarter.

 

Texas Instruments Networking & Dinner Event

When: Monday, October 20th, from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Where: Frank E. Pilling, Room 249 (14-249)  

Texas Instruments will be hosting a Tech Talk during the week of the career fair. They will discuss working at TI, with a focus on recruiting juniors and seniors for internships and full-time positions. The first 30 minutes will be a regular tech talk, followed by a 60-minute socialization period with the TI employees, with food provided!

FPGA Hackathon

When: Saturday - Sunday, 10/25 - 10/26
Where: TBD

Come join our FPGA Hackathon hosted by Yuri Panchul. This hackathon is suitable for all skill levels, regardless of whether you have taken digital design classes before. Our event challenges those with no experience, but also those who are already proficient in FPGA design. This event is ideal for those seeking hands-on experience with FPGA projects, learning more about ASIC design tools, microarchitecture design, front-end RTL design, and more. Hope to see you there!

CPES x Career Services Resume Workshop

When: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, Tuesday, October 7
Where: Engineering East, Room 128 (20-128)  

We are holding our first resume workshop of the year! Come join us so upperclassmen and Career Services can give you some tips and tricks to improve your resume in time for the Fall Career Fair. 

CPES IRA Laser Tag Project

When: Starting Week 3, updates on the times will be announced via CPES Discord. 
Where: TBD, will be announced soon via CPES Discord.

Come join CPES IRA to create a small laser tag game. By creating laser tag from the ground up, you can learn basic circuitry and embedded systems, as well as basic project design fundamentals. Suitable for all skill levels, this course is accessible to both those proficient in circuitry and embedded systems, as well as those with no prior experience, offering a fun and challenging experience. This project will span over the fall quarter and will have weekly meetings to work on your devices. 

Okta Tech Talk

When: 11:00AM-12:00PM, Thursday, 10/02
Where: Engineering East, Room 139 (20-139)

There will be a tech talk with Okta next Thursday, October 2nd! Okta is a cloud-based computer security company that will also be present at the Cal Poly Career Fair. Come to this tech talk to learn more about how their company operates, what technology and services they provide to protect and support their userbase, and how you can join them!

CPES Hike

When: 9:00AM - 12:00PM, Saturday, 10/04
Where: Meeting on Dexter Lawn, Hiking Trail TBA

Check out our hike coming up this Saturday! Fill out this interest form to help us decide on where we want to go. We are currently deciding between the P, Architecture Graveyard, and Serenity Swing. 

CPES General Meeting

When: 6:00-8:00PM, Thursday, 09/25
Where: Engineering West, Room 133 (21-133)

This is our First CPES General Meeting of the year! We will go over this year's board members + club does + what events/resources we offer for students here, we have a ton of events planned this quarter, so please swing by to learn more and for free food as well :^)

END OF THE YEAR GAME NIGHT!

When: 05/22/2025 @ 6PM - 8PM
Where: Building 20, Room 100

We will have a bunch of games like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Switch Sports, board games and more! For the Mario Kart Tournament: show up to the event and stick around to play, its that simple! There will also be food (Pizza, snackies, all the goods) for those who RSVP.

CPES x SONY Hardware Hackathon

Location and Time: 
Introduction Event: 04/18/2025 @ 5PM (Building 20-145)
Main Event: 04/19/2025 and 04/20/2025 @ 9AM - 5PM (Building 20-100) 

Description: We will be hosting an introduction event, helping you setup your Spresense board on Friday, April 18th. The main Hackathon portion will be Saturday April 19th and Sunday April 20th. This Hackathon can either be done individually or with a group. 

Intro Event: *optional* come join us on Friday, April 18th to setup your Dev Board and IDE to make sure you are ready to start on Saturday morning. You can also spend this time getting in groups and deciding on a project to do. We recommend attending if possible to get a head start for the actual Hackathon the following day.


Main Hackathon Event: Spend Saturday and Sunday working with your dev board to build your project! You can work alone or with your group to build whatever you want centered around our theme. Judging will take place on Sunday afternoon based off of a list of critera such as functionality, ties to theme, originality, etc.

 

IRA Smart Glasses Workshop

When: 4PM-6PM Fridays, Weeks 2-8 Winter Quarter
Where: In-Person (Building 20, Room 140) 

Create a pair of smart glasses a la EDITH using a Raspberry Pi and a transparent OLED screen! Learn basic Python IO!

Mindfulness Hike to Architecture Graveyard

When: 03/8/2025 @ 9:55AM
Meet at: Einstein Statue in front of Baker Science

Designed to help you disconnect from daily stressors and reconnect with nature. Before we take off on the Arch Graveyard trails, we’ll engage in mindful breathing exercises to ground ourselves in the present moment. This guided experience encourages relaxation, clarity, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty around us. Whether you’re new to mindfulness or a seasoned practitioner, this hike offers a peaceful escape to refresh your mind, body, and spirit. Take a deep breath, step into nature, and let go. We will be meeting at the Einstein Statue in front of Baker Science a bit before 10am, and departing shortly from there! Feel free to bring any friends along, this event is open to everyone!

Hackathon (OSTEM x CPES/COLOR CODED)

When: 02/15/2025 @ 9AM - 9PM and 02/16/2025 @ 9AM - 6PM 
Where: Advanced Technologies Lab (ATL)

The Hackathon is two days starting from February 15 (9am-9pm) to February 16 (9am -6pm)! No experience required, and food will be provided!

IRA Formal Hardware Verification

When: 02/06/2025 @ 6PM - 8PM 
Where: Building 20, Room 132

Formal Verification is the perfect way to help design your Verilog/System Verilog Test benches, and helps eliminate the need for scouring through nasty waveforms for hours! It would be great to check out the interest form so we can gauge experience. 

General Meeting/Resume Workshop Event

When: 01/23/2025 @ 11AM - 12PM
Where: Building 14, Room 251

Come by Frank E. Pilling, Room 251, to have some upperclassmen give some tips and tricks on improving your resume. Also comes with free snacks!

MOXA Networks Tech Talk

When: 4/22/2024 @ 7PM - 8PM
Where: Building 192, Room 106

Moxa innovates industrial networking and communication solutions. They provide reliable and innovative products such as industrial Ethernet switches, wireless devices, and embedded computers to support industrial automation, transportation, and energy applications. Join us to see what Moxa has to offer, and learn about what they look for in students wanting to apply there! They will be showing a demo of some of their equipment as well!

NVIDIA Tech Talk

When: 4/11/2024 @ 7PM - 8PM
Where: Building 192, Room 106

The speaker is a Cal Poly CPE alumni who works at NVIDIA! Learn all about NVIDIA opportunities, their key strategic objectives, and resources for those interested in a potential future there! There will be equipment from NVIDIA that you can examine and discuss with him. For those who attend, there is a chance that you can get a free beanie/shirt! We look forward to seeing you all there, and wish you all a great spring quarter!

Niantic Lightship Tech Talk

Join us for an event with Niantic to learn about the technology that makes Pokémon Go interact with maps and AR! Follow along and participate with Unity 2021 or 2022 installed to learn how to use their SDK!
