CPEs is excited to host the 2012 Cal Poly Mobile Hack-a-thon from 7pm Friday, June 1st to 7pm Saturday June 2nd. This will be a competition to design and program an innovative mobile application either for a particular mobile operating system like Android iOS, Windows Mobile, or in the HTML5 standard. Meals will be provided throughout the event, and the entries will be judged by a panel of Cal Poly professors and industry members. Several cash prizes will be awarded to the winners, and all participating entrants who pitch an app idea and implement it will be entered into raffles for awesome prizes.
To participate, you must register ahead of time on the event’s Eventbrite page. The hack-a-thon is currently scheduled to take place in the Computer Science building, 14-149. Register soon to guarantee a space in the competition! On Saturday night after the final judging, business and art students interested in developing the Hack-a-thon projects further in the form of a start-up or senior project will be available to network with and discuss possibilities.

Representatives from Experts-Exchange, the popular “ask an expert” site will be on campus Tuesday, May 15th for an info session. It will be held in room 246 of the Computer Science building from 6-8pm. We will be serving food, and you are encouraged to bring your resume if you are interested in possible internship or career opportunities. We hope to see you there!

CPEs is proud to host the CPE program end-of-year banquet on Friday, May 18th. It will be hosted at the beautiful and historic Madonna Inn from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. Your CPEs officers have been planning for the banquet for months, and we are sure you’ll have a good time. There will be raffles, trivia competitions, awards for both students and teachers, and, most importantly, a delicious 3-course steak dinner. Tickets (which include admission and the cost of the normally $34 dinner) are $15 for students and just $10 for CPEs members. It will be will worth the price of admission. There will be representatives from tech-related companies at each table who are looking for potential candidates for both summer internships and new-grad positions. The banquet will be a great networking opportunity for students of all computer-related majors and all years. To get your ticket, go to the CPE program office in building 20A, room 215.
